AGNI RAKSHAK December 2024

Background:
Mumbai Fire Brigade, in collaboration with Project Mumbai, an award-winning non-profit organization, has launched Agni Rakshak – Making Mumbai Fire Safe, a unique citizen volunteer program aimed at training citizens in fire safety and awareness.

On December 14, 2024, the latest session of this initiative was held at the Byculla Headquarters of the Mumbai Fire Brigade. Fifty-five citizens from Mumbai and Navi Mumbai participated in a comprehensive half-day training, combining classroom lectures and practical exercises. Participants included individuals from Centuria Aviation, MD College, KC College, and other citizens who registered online.

Theory Lecture Session:
The theoretical session was conducted by Senior Station Officer Mahesh Jadhav and ADFO Sankar Paol. It provided participants with foundational knowledge about fire safety practices and the history of the Mumbai Fire Brigade. This segment emphasized methods of effective action during fire-related emergencies, equipping attendees with critical knowledge.

Practical Fire Safety Training:
The practical session demonstrated the use of fire extinguishers, with hands-on guidance by the same officers. This training helped volunteers gain confidence in using fire-fighting equipment effectively during emergencies.

All participants received Fire Safety Citizen Champion certificates, recognizing their commitment to making Mumbai safer. These free sessions are held every Saturday, with admission limited to pre-registered candidates.

The Agni Rakshak program is a testament to community-driven initiatives that promote safety and preparedness.
