Mumbai, May 27, 2025 — South African cricket legend AB de Villiers has returned to Mumbai—this time not for a cricket match, but to play a powerful innings of compassion, creativity, and community engagement. In a heartwarming collaboration with the award-winning non-profit Project Mumbai, AB spent a full day volunteering across the city, inspiring citizens to give back with purpose.
The day began with an inclusive wheelchair cricket match that celebrated the exceptional talent and resilience of specially-abled athletes supported by Project Mumbai at the Islam Gym Khana. AB enthusiastically participated, cheering on players and championing the message of inclusive sports.
From the field, AB headed to a BMC municipal school in Malabhar Hill where he picked up a paintbrush to transform classrooms into colourful, welcoming spaces for young learners. This was part of Project Mumbai’s flagship initiative SATRANGI, which promotes civic pride and inclusivity through community-driven beautification of public spaces.
The final stop of the day saw AB at a paper bag-making workshop with underprivileged kids at the CSSC centre engaging in conversations around sustainability while helping promote skill-building and environmental awareness.

This day of volunteering reflects Project Mumbai’s vision: to make volunteering for the city a way of life. From plastic and e-waste recycling to school makeovers and citizen clean-up drives, Project Mumbai empowers Mumbaikars—young and old, local and global—to take action.
The school transformation was part of Project Mumbai’s SATRANGI initiative—a celebration of diversity, inclusion, and collective creativity. By turning plain school walls into vibrant canvases, SATRANGI invites citizens to reimagine public spaces as symbols of pride, belonging, and possibility.
AB de Villiers’ partnership with Project Mumbai continues to inspire people far beyond the cricket field. Whether it’s picking up trash, a brush, or a paper bag—this icon reminds us that every small act of kindness paints a brighter future for our cities.
